HEARTSTRINGS: FIRE IN THE NIGHT

Last night, New York suddenly lost power. Confusion soon gave way to a rise of violence, as those who lurk beneath our feet rose to the surface. Our protectors, in turn, rose to the challenge.

The gap between the buildings, lit only by fire.

Last night seemed like it would be a night as any other. A large gathering had occurred before the Vantage building, and I was talking with friends, as I tend to do.

It didn't last, as calm rarely does in New York. The peaceful day had given way to a chaotic night, as power to Manhattan was lost for an extended period.

At first, people were confused. The Police investigated the sub-station near the hospital, and discovered a man had climbed up one of the pylons. The official reason for the power going out was 'aspect usage', though no further details have yet been released, and it remains a mystery at this time.

The man seen climbing the pylon near the substation.

The NYPD have yet to release an official statement.

Soon enough, the darkness gave way to chaos. Those that reside below our feet, criminals and societal rejects, emerged to the surface. Shots rang out in the dark. Many lives were lost, as the NYPD rallied to regain order.

Responding to those shots was a familiar face; Teagan Ward, also known as the Morriganite. Some have yet to make the connection between the two, but Teagan is open about his career as a hero. He was swift to take action - so swift, in fact, he did not have time to change into his uniform. Even so, as the NYPD closed the net around those causing chaos, he stood amongst them.

Another figure, however, made themselves known this night. We have no name and no statement from them, yet, and the anonymous figure wore both a hood and mask. All we know is they wielded fire, and flung it into criminals in aid of the NYPD.

The working name is, thus far, 'Flameo Hotman'. Until this unknown person gives an official interview and name to Loose Ends, this is the name we'll use. We're hoping this will encourage them to do so!

The figure known, for now, as Flameo Hotman.

It was the swift intervention and co-ordination of New York's heroes, those of the NYPD, GDA, and unknown origins, that ensured fewer lives were lost.

Still, many died in the chaos. It leaves us all asking one question; why did this happen in the first place? Was it a distraction? A deliberate attack? An accident, that people seized upon to cause death and destruction?

Until a full investigation is made, we may never know.

My heart and the full condolences of the team at Loose Ends go out to the families of those who lost their lives in this latest attack. May we see less death in the coming months.
